Yorkshire

Yorkshire covers an area of huge variety, it has a dramatic coastline, bleak moors, rolling hills and dales. It is popular with tourists for its natural beauty (three national parks - Dales, Moors & Peak District) Heritage - two UNESCO World Heritage sites, stately homes, literary connections, film and TV locations.

The ceremonial county of Yorkshire is these days made up of four 'administrative counties' -

North Yorkshire which is the largest and includes the Dales and Moors National Parks, for convenience we have split this into two area

The Dales - including the Dales National Park and surrounding areas around Harrogate, Richmond and Skipton.

York, Moors and Coast - includes the City of York area, the North Yorks Moors National Park and the North Yorkshire Coast.

South Yorkshire - covering Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield and includes part of the Peak District National Park

East Yorkshire - embraces the City of Hull (Kingston upon Hull), the Yorkshire Wolds and East Yorkshire Coast (from the Humber to Flambourough Head)

West Yorkshire - The county of West Yorkshire includes the industrial area of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. Bradford is a World Heritage City of Film and Saltaire is also a World Heritage site, the area also includes Haworth renown as Bronte Country.
